In the vines

Because the Mourvèdre (moor-vey-druh) grape is originally from the warm shores of the Mediterranean, it is heat-resistant and grows vigorously in our climate. Our small vineyard of less than one hectare is pruned to retain a large number of growth positions. This reduces the vines’ vegetative vigour and yields a balance between growth and fruiting.

In vigour and yield, the 2016 growing season was more moderate than 2015. Warm, dry conditions during the summer led to an early harvest. The rosé fruit arrived in excellent condition at the winery.

The wine

Mourvèdre has traditionally been used for the production of high quality rosé wines in Provence. It was therefore a natural step to use our estate vineyard and try it for ourselves. We have always enjoyed adding a bit of Mourvèdre to our Syrah for its spicy & earthy flavours.

This rosé stands out with a light salmon pink colour and a bit of orange peel on the rim. The wine elicits aromas of rose water, strawberries, watermelon, and black currant. It has a crisp, dry finish and is perfect alongside the braai. Serve chilled, at 7-9°C.
